Discover Felicity's seven key policy deliverables
We need to generate growth in our business economy to create jobs and prosperity.
There is huge potential in the region and my focus will be to identify opportunity, help raise funds and deliver the best return on investment. As a sustainable tourist destination, the region will attract visitors from around the world.
Better skills mean better jobs and better wellbeing : these all go hand in hand.
As Mayor, responsible for adult education, I will ensure the right courses provide the relevant skills that lead to better jobs. This in turn will provide the catalyst for economic growth. However, poor health often impacts the life chances of the most deprived and we need to tackle this, with a focus on finding solutions to the current crisis in care, healthcare and NHS dentistry.
We all know we need to reduce our carbon footprint, but green energy also has enormous potential for creating jobs and driving down energy costs for us all.
The region has the resources to deliver this, from small scale measures at household level to ambitious large scale projects. My ambition would also be to improve the insulation in the homes that need it most to reduce the demand for power and reduce energy bills at the same time.
Our communities and high streets are under threat: from the loss of a village school or post office to the closure of vital shops.
This can be caused by a lack of affordable housing, the wrong balance of second homes & holiday lets, and out of town retail competition. There are many measures available to address all of these situations, to keep our communities alive.
From source to the sea, our waterways are under threat from sewage and pollutants.
This impacts nature and all of us, it has to stop. As Mayor, I will lead the campaign for the water infrastructure to be upgraded and pollutants brought under control. Flooding also needs to be managed better, with upstream natural solutions and biodiversity measures that will filter and purify the water too.
The current system is broken and we need to get crime under control.
We aren’t spending enough money on community policing, which drives up crime, and lack of rehabilitation creates a reoffending spiral. The current role of Police and Crime Commissioner will be better delivered by a panel of experts and community stakeholders, to ensure local provision relates to local needs – and without the costs of running the PCC office, more funding will be released for more police officers in the community.
A single ticket joined up network of public transport to connect all of us across the region will be transformational.
This is one of the issues that most of us care about. The current service is not fit for purpose, and the new system will help reduce congestion, reduce our carbon imprint and make life viable for where we live for many of us. Running alongside that is the need to extend our bike network and facilities to improve safety for cyclists and encourage more of us to cycle more.
