Councillor Joy Andrews

I have lived and worked in the wonderful town of Pickering all my life.

Pickering is a small market town nestled at the southern end of the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors, it boasts a steam railway, a 13th century castle & the church of St. Peter & St. Pauls containing world famous medieval frescos, but above all it is the community spirit within the Town that makes this a fantastic place to call home.

I was co-opted on to the Town Council after I 'lead the charge' on a five year battle with a new resident who blocked a right of way in the centre of Town, I served for 10 years (2009-2019) in that time I have had the great honour of representing Pickering as its Mayor in 2014/15 & 2018/19. I won a by-election in 2013 to represent Pickering on the District Council where I have remained for the last 10 years.

As an elected member of the District Council both myself and the Liberal group of 5 always pushed for value for money, service delivery and support for business and tourism. I have been on Planning, Overview and Scrutiny and most recently the Policy and Resources Committees.

I joined the Liberal Party over 14 years ago as there were no other pro-active party's within the area that I felt had the values I had. Ryedale is or has been a very conservative area but attitudes are changing and I hope working collaboratively with the Liberal Democrats and the other like minded parties on the new North Yorkshire Council we can improve the lives of all its residents and make sure it is a fairer place for all.
